10 ECO-FRIENDLY BABY GIFTS FROM SUSTAINABLE BRANDS
A new baby in the family? Here are some of my favorite eco-friendly & sustainable baby gifts any mama and papa would be happy to receive!
Buying gifts for babies has to be one of my favorite things. It’s so much fun spoiling the newborns in the family, but I can be super picky about what I purchase for them. I’m always the one going through the baby registry trying to find the eco-friendly products, and I’ve been known to divert from the list… sorry, not sorry. After having Elliott, I’ve learned what products are truly awesome and special, and I hope this list helps you out if you feel stumped on the sustainable type baby gifts.
What makes a gift sustainable?
We look for several things when deciding if a product should be listed in our sustainable holiday gift guides.
1) What is the gift made out of?The gift we add must be made from eco-friendly materials that are easy on the planet. 2) Who made the gift? The maker behind the item is just as important and should be compensated fairly for their time. 3)Does the brand implement sustainability within its entire business? We don’t want surface-level eco-friendly products; we want brands who genuinely care about sustainability and enforce it throughout their business wherever they can - from shipping to giving back. 4) Is the gift practical & something they can use for many years? We’ve all been given gifts we could have done without, but we find every gift we add to these lists are practical and going to be loved for a very long time.
Now, our top picks for sustainable gifts for babies:
This is the sweetest little rattle! Pebble is an ethical and sustainable brand out of Bangladesh that uses organic cotton to create their precious toys, hats & blankets. Each product is made without electricity, and the organic cotton is spun by women artisans into yarn and then hand-knitted and crocheted. Pebble currently has more than 12,000 women artisans employed across 120 rural villages in Bangladesh, and is Fair Trade & Woman-Owned.
Looking for the purest baby clothing? This signature collection from Bébénca Organics is made from unbleached and undyed natural organic cotton fabric (GOTS Certified)! So natural and pure the way nature intended, this fabric has only been given a hot water detergent wash to remove the impurities. Only the best for our little babies, right!? The gender-neutral collection is available in sizes newborn to 12 months.

This is the mattress Elliott had in his crib, and it is so comfortable! We currently have it stored for the next baby. Made in a GOTS-certified facility, this organic mattress is made of a single, solid 5" layer of firm natural Dunlop latex in the Savvy Rest organic casing.
Their waterproof mattress protectors come in all bed sizes from crib to california king. They are made from organic cotton, and meant to last you through many years (& spills).
These little cuties are hand-knitted with Patagonia sheep's wool, and stitched with salmon leather for the outsole. The salmon leather is upcycled from the local fishing industry, and they are handmade in small batches by women artisans in Patagonia, Chile. Aren’t they sweet?!
We tried a few different pacifier brands for Elliott (he stopped when he was 7 months), and these were his favorite. They are made from sustainable 100% natural rubber from the tree Hevea brasiliensis, a material that's durable–yet soft, and gentle.
I’ve loved using these mats for Elliott’s meal time. They are made from 100% food-grade silicone that is naturally unbreakable and toxin-free. You can put them in the dishwasher and microwave, and they come in so many different colors and styles. They’ve made eating so much more fun and manageable!
I bought this for Elliott and I swear it was worth every penny. He LOVED this mat, and I miss the days this used to sit in the middle of the living room. They are designed by child development experts, and use materials like sustainably harvest wood, organic cotton and water-based, non-toxic finishes! I bet you your child will love it, too.
Not only are these socks for the adults, but the kiddos, too! I mean, how cute are Elliott’s little feet in these?! A social business dedicated to working alongside women & children in need, Fazl Socks donates 50% of their profits to orphanages AND creates fair jobs. For each pair sold, you are helping provide orphaned and destitute children in India with food, shelter, education, and clothing; along with sustaining jobs for the ladies who knit their socks.
The owners of cuddle+kind wanted to create a sustainable stream of giving that wouldn’t rely on donations. Since September 2015, the sales of their adorable little dolls have helped provide over 13 million meals to children in need! Every cuddle+kind doll is handmade, stitch by stitch with a lot of love in Peru. They are hand-knit, hand-loomed, embroidered & crocheted by traditional artisans.
One of my favorite parts of the holidays are dressing the family up in matching pjs! In terms of accessibility and affordability, Burt’s Bees is a great brand to go to. They have the sweetest Holiday pjs, which we do as a family every year. We bought the striped onesie sleepers for both me & Travis, and have worn them the last two years, and plan to wear them again this year! Elliott will have to size up, though :D
