A new baby in the family? Here are some of my favorite eco-friendly & sustainable baby gifts any mama and papa would be happy to receive!
Buying gifts for babies has to be one of my favorite things. It’s so much fun spoiling the newborns in the family, but I can be super picky about what I purchase for them. I’m always the one going through the baby registry trying to find the eco-friendly products, and I’ve been known to divert from the list… sorry, not sorry. After having Elliott, I’ve learned what products are truly awesome and special, and I hope this list helps you out if you feel stumped on the sustainable type baby gifts.
What makes a gift sustainable?
We look for several things when deciding if a product should be listed in our sustainable holiday gift guides.
1) What is the gift made out of? The gift we add must be made from eco-friendly materials that are easy on the planet. 2) Who made the gift? The maker behind the item is just as important and should be compensated fairly for their time. 3) Does the brand implement sustainability within its entire business? We don’t want surface-level eco-friendly products; we want brands who genuinely care about sustainability and enforce it throughout their business wherever they can - from shipping to giving back. 4) Is the gift practical & something they can use for many years? We’ve all been given gifts we could have done without, but we find every gift we add to these lists are practical and going to be loved for a very long time.

1) Dino Rattle from Made Trade
This is the sweetest little rattle! Pebble is an ethical and sustainable brand out of Bangladesh that uses organic cotton to create their precious toys, hats & blankets. Each product is made without electricity, and the organic cotton is spun by women artisans into yarn and then hand-knitted and crocheted. Pebble currently has more than 12,000 women artisans employed across 120 rural villages in Bangladesh, and is Fair Trade & Woman-Owned.

4) Baby Slippers from Chilote
These little cuties are hand-knitted with Patagonia sheep's wool, and stitched with salmon leather for the outsole. The salmon leather is upcycled from the local fishing industry, and they are handmade in small batches by women artisans in Patagonia, Chile. Aren’t they sweet?!

5) Ecopiggy Natural Pacifier from EarthHero
We tried a few different pacifier brands for Elliott (he stopped when he was 7 months), and these were his favorite. They are made from sustainable 100% natural rubber from the tree Hevea brasiliensis, a material that's durable–yet soft, and gentle.

6) Eating Mats from Ezpz
I’ve loved using these mats for Elliott’s meal time. They are made from 100% food-grade silicone that is naturally unbreakable and toxin-free. You can put them in the dishwasher and microwave, and they come in so many different colors and styles. They’ve made eating so much more fun and manageable!

7) The Play Gym from Lovevery
I bought this for Elliott and I swear it was worth every penny. He LOVED this mat, and I miss the days this used to sit in the middle of the living room. 8) Cozy Socks from FAZL
Not only are these socks for the adults, but the kiddos, too! I mean, how cute are Elliott’s little feet in these?! Since September 2015, the sales of their adorable little dolls have helped provide over 13 million meals to children in need! 10) Matching Family Pajamas from Burt’s Bees Baby
One of my favorite parts of the holidays are dressing the family up in matching pjs! In terms of accessibility and affordability, Burt’s Bees is a great brand to go to. They have the sweetest Holiday pjs, which we do as a family every year. We bought the striped onesie sleepers for both me & Travis, and have worn them the last two years, and plan to wear them again this year! Elliott will have to size up, though :D
